How It Works
The Landscape Design Process
While not every project requires a full landscape design, this is what to expect if it does.
Step 1
Initial Consultation
The design process starts with an initial consultation at your home or the site of the future project, with you and one or both of the owners of Hale’s Landscaping, Inc., Steve and John Hale. The meeting will usually last for an hour or two, during which we will discuss your objectives and vision for the property such as creating an outside area to entertain family and guests, screening an area off or creating a peaceful sanctuary.

Once we have a sense of your taste and goals, we will discuss different options and review our portfolio to help you visualize some of the ideas discussed. We will discuss timeframe and expectations as well as your budget, permits and fees associated with design and implementation of the landscape.

The first consultation is free. If you decide to retain our services, we will send you a contract for the design process. Once we have received the $500 deposit, of which $250 is non refundable, we will begin a conceptual design.
Step 2
Conceptual Design
We will prepare a conceptual design which will consist of the general layout of the landscape as well as plantings and color schemes. The conceptual phase is a guide from which new ideas and changes can and will be made. Once the basic design is agreed upon, it is time to start the final design process.
Step 3
Final Design & Estimate
At this point a final, detailed design will be prepared and an estimate for the project will be provided. The design will include a plant list with types of plants, size, color and quantity, as well as a schedule of materials to be used. We will review the design and estimate with you and answer all questions. Upon approval of the design and estimate, we will prepare a contract for the construction process.
Step 4
Contract, Permits and Materials
When the contract has been signed and we have received the deposit (usually 50% of the total contract), we will begin work to obtain any local or state permits required. Materials will be ordered and a start date will be confirmed.
Step 5
Construction
When the materials have arrived and the permits have been obtained it is time to start the construction process. This process can be noisy and messy. We will do everything we can to minimize the inconvenience to you and your neighbors. Hale’s Landscaping, Inc. is always respectful of your surroundings. We will keep you updated on the progress and are available to answer questions or address any concerns you may have.
Step 6
Project Completion
At the completion of the project we will conduct a final walk through to review your new landscape. At this time we will go over best management practices for maintaining your investment, and to let you know what to expect in the future in terms of plant growth and maintenance. All plants are guaranteed for one year from planting unless specified, dependent on the client taking proper care of the new plantings. This is specified in the construction contract.
