Salmon Falls River
The site of this project had many challenges, from limited access to steep grades situated along the Salmon Falls River. The clients wanted as much level area as possible adjacent to the house and access to the dock, all while adhering to the shore land zoning laws.

A custom retaining wall was built using large granite blocks split to our specifications. All of the granite blocks and landings which create the staircase down to the dock have drill marks in them to replicate how stone was quarried in the old days. The retaining wall was designed to evoke images of an old seawall along the banks of the river.

In keeping with the cool blue colors of the river, a bluestone patio with a sunken fire pit was installed. The combination of the bluestone patio coming up to the granite wall has created an infinity edge with an amazing view.

The customer had requested that she would like to install all of the plantings with some suggestions and ideas from us. So we designed where all of the planting beds would be. Then we mulched the beds and hydro seeded all of the lawn areas. Now the customer had a clean palette to work with and could plant until her heart's content.
